“Google Games”, the future of unified gaming?

7 Mar

The future of gaming is just around the corner! No, not a new console, or a new game for PC. What we are talking is what Venture Beat has quoted Punit Soni in saying to the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

By next year, we will not be here talking about Google+ Games, Chrome Web Store games, Games for Native Client and Android games. We will be talking about Google games.

With Facebook and Zynga owning the “Social Gaming” market, Google and its vat of programmers are looking to take a portion of that pie. Only with Google it would be a cross the board on their Chrome browser, Android OS and Google+ social network.

It was very clear games were one of the first things we would put up there on Google+. Games bring people together. They are an important part of how users interact online. Game developers push boundaries, and games are fun.

“We realize that gaming is at an interesting point in its evolution and we have technology and platforms to push it to the next level.”

If Google could make this happen the right way, the first time out, it should take off like a fighter jet! Think about it, live gaming with friends that are hundreds of miles away. It would stomp the competition. The best part is that it will not just be a Google+ thing … IT WILL BE A CROSS THE ENTIRE GOOGLE ECOSYSTEM. Multi-player matches with someone on an Android device while the other is on Google+. Playing live in a Hangout!

The possibilities would be endless!

Take your bias for Google out of the mix for a second. Push aside your unwavering lust for Apple or your companionship with Facebook. If you could jump on your computer, and log in to your favorite game, join friends, live across the city, state, or shit … THE WORLD, you wouldn’t want to join? If so, you’re a damn liar, and only the truth shall set you free.
